IN THE CARE OF

Demaine Funeral Home

Maureen Ann (Quill) Orndorff was born May 1, 1933 to her parents Madeline and Thomas Quill in Washington, D.C. She died on May 9, 2020 at Alexandria Inova Hospital. Survivors include husband, Richard Orndorff Sr.; 2 children, Mari Jo McDonald (Edward) and Richard Orndorff Jr. (Susan); 7 grandchildren, Edward McDonald Jr., Lindsay Meesak Orndorff (Brandon Meesak), Kelly Dunwoody (John), Sean Orndorff, Mark McDonald, Brian McDonald, and Lauren McDonald; 2 great-grandchildren, Jordan and Brooklyn Dunwoody; sisters Kathleen Lee and Carol Quill; brothers Terrance Quill and John Quill; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Madeline and Thomas Quill; sisters Mildred Watson, Mary Wilson, Jo Ann Bennett; brothers Brian Quill, Patrick Quill, Thomas Quill Jr., and Michael Quill. Maureen was born and raised in Washington D.C. before moving to Virginia in 1963. She was a full-time mother and spent her career in the federal government. Throughout her 67 year marriage to Richard, wherever he sang or performed, Maureen was there in the front row as his number one fan. Together, they attended Church of the Nativity for as long as they were able. Maureen took pleasure in “doing her numbers,” feet up on the recliner, furiously scribbling in her notebook during The Price is Right. Family lore has it that Maureen picked the right lotto combination once but didn’t turn in the card because she attended her grandson’s baseball game. Yet she always maintained she made the right decision and wouldn’t have changed a thing. Maureen understood that the greatest gift in life was not material goods but unconditional love. She spoiled her family and friends with all she had to give. Maureen had a bottomless well of childhood tales growing up with eleven siblings in the midst of The Great Depression. Her grandchildren would beg her to re-tell them on road trips or at family gatherings like a jukebox of greatest hits. She would inevitably interrupt herself in the middle of her stories, unable to form the words as tears of infectious laughter streamed down her cheeks. When she wasn’t leaving her audience in stitches, she was busy filling their bellies. She loved to cook for family but none of her dishes was more beloved than “Grandma’s Dip.” Access to the addictive appetizer created fierce competition, but she was always happy to make more. When family were separated by thousands of miles, she would call them up and walk them through the recipe step-by-step just so they could have a taste. Maureen will be remembered by all who knew her for her compassion, integrity, faith, perseverance, and joyful spirit. Anyone who had the fortune to call her friend, wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, or great-grandmother came away a better person because of their relationship to her. Though she is missed, she won’t soon be forgotten. We will carry you in our hearts and memories for the rest of our lives. A funeral mass will be held May 27, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Jude's Catholic Church, Fredericksburg, VA, Private interment to follow at Quantico National Cemetary. The family asks that charitable donations be made in Maureen’s honor to the American Stroke Foundation or Little Sisters of the Poor.
