Charlie Williams

28 January, 194411 December, 2023
Charlie Williams, age 79, of Fredericksburg, Virginia passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife, Elvia Williams; his daughter, Maryanne Williams Sullivan; his son-in-law, Chip Doss; his son, Robert Williams; his daughter-in-law, Sara Williams; his granddaughter, Kayla Williams Lentz (Matt); his grandson, Kyle Williams; and his great granddaughters, Daisy Lentz, Ava Lentz and Savannah Williams. Charlie is also survived by his sister, Darnell Williams Hunnicutt; his brother-in-law, Mike Hunnicutt; and his nephews, Stacey Hunnicutt, Andrew Hunnicutt and Christopher Hunnicutt. He was tragically preceded in death by his son, Ramon Charles Williams and his grandson, Spencer Quin Sullivan. Charlie spent 26 supporting his country as a serviceman in the Unites States Air Force. Service to his country afforded him and his wife Elvia the opportunity to raise 3 children in different countries throughout the world. He took great pride in his military service, a tradition learned from his own father, Walter and passed along to his son, Robert. One of his greatest joys was becoming a grandfather (Pop as he was known to the family), and eventually a great grandfather (still Pop). Having three grandchildren kept him busy, including building the newest Christmas gifts for excited little ones, cheering at sporting events, parent drop off/pick up lines, and riding four wheelers. One Christmas, with his oldest son, he drove hundreds of miles to pick up a Country Kitchen so a little girl could have it Christmas morning. He is amusingly remembered for his participation in the water fights (which he always claimed he wasn’t partaking in) during family trips to Panama. Gardening was one of the many hobbies he shared with Kyle, teaching him all the things he would need to grow a small farm. He taught his youngest grandson what a “cowboy napkin” was and immediately witnessed Spencer demonstrate the newly learned skill. He was the type of grandfather who started food fights at the dinner table when someone said “pass me a roll” or “give me just a handful of potatoes”. When his three great grand daughters came along, his lap was the one to snuggle on. He was the first one to put a piece of Halloween candy in their buckets and always snuck a few extra pieces in when mom and dad weren’t looking at the end of the night. Pop would assist the girls in their pleas for extra desert often saying “Come on mom! It’s just one more cookie…” Over the last several years of his life he was able to spend time with each of his grandchildren and great granddaughters, and reminded them of how generous, caring, and stubborn he could be. Pop opened his home to anyone who needed it and was the first to ask how he could help someone. The last 5 months of his life were spent hanging out with his little gremlin and partner in crime, a precocious little 8 month old baby he called LilyBug who brought him such joy. Of all of the titles Charlie carried throughout his life, Airman, Sergeant, brother, son, husband, dad, friend, “Pop” was his most endearing. Mr. Williams will be laid to rest at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
