John M. Burchett Jr.

John Malachi Burchett, Jr., 92, of Staunton, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at his residence.
Mr. Burchett was born October, 6, 1928, a son of the late John Malachi Sr., and Ann (Havens) Burchett.
He lived in Falls Church, Virginia for many years where he worked as a salesman in the wholesale food industry before retiring to Staunton in the late 80’s. Also during that time he was active in the VFW Post in McLean, Virginia serving as post commander from 1982-1984.
Prior to that he had served his country in the United States Air Force in Okinawa, Japan after WWII and in the Korean War and traveled to many other destinations before finishing his military career at Glasgow Air Force Base in Glasgow, Montana. While in Glasgow, he was an active member of North Star Lodge 46.
He retired as an Air Force first sergeant after 22 years in 1968.
John was a lifelong avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of Good News Ministries in Staunton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise (Saab) Burchett in 2005.
Survivors include a son, John C. Burchett and spouse Stanislav Slavchav of Tampa, Fl.; daughter Carol Burchett and spouse Jeff Kostoff of Vienna, Va.; daughter Mary Ann Chaussee of Prescott, Az; and grandchildren, Nick Escoto, Ben Escoto, and Jeremy Poehnert.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Oak Lawn Mausoleums and Memory Gardens, 1921 Shutterlee Mill Road, Staunton with Pastor Wanda Myers officiating, with military and masonic rites provided by Staunton Masonic Lodge 13.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 18 W. Frederick St., Staunton, Va.
