Margaret was such a kind and delightful lady, and it was a privilege for me to know her over the years. I'll always remember the refined way in which she read the first and second readings at Mass years ago, and her always infectious smile. We'll miss you, Margaret, but hope to see you again!

Margaret was a very special person and made a tremendous impact on my life. Over twenty years ago she hosted Steuart and me for a lovely dinner at her condo on Augusta and Edgewood and that began our relationship where she showed me how life should be lived as you offer your love and service to Our Lord. A special time was when she and I worked with a man from the community who had mental issues. He was very sick and Margaret and I took him one Sunday from church to his room at the old Stonewall Jackson Hotel when it was run as a halfway house. Margaret had worked with Mother Teresa and knew that this man deserved to die clean and with dignity. We cleaned him up, changed the sheets on his bed, and rubbed his back to make him comfortable. He had been at the hospital and did not want to stay there so we were with him as he died. What a gift Margaret gave me as she shared how to approach death and dying in such a calm, confident, and loving way. Later, we worked with the social worker to find some family, but there was none. He had told us he always wanted to be buried at Harper’s Ferry so with Fr. Abe’s help, we were able to bring his remains there and give him a proper burial. This is just one example of how Margaret touched lives. She is rejoicing in heaven with Mother Teresa now! St. Francis Parish was blessed to have known her for so many years!

We met Margaret 20 years ago when we first moved to VA and joined ST Francis Roman Catholic Church in Staunton, VA. She was a delight and we loved being in her company. Her life mirrored Christ's words to love one another.

Dear Mrs. McDougall,

Thank you for sharing so many special moments with me when I was little. You let me come over and tidy things up at your house, but really it was you that was doing the tidying. You did did this by listening to me, giving me advice, and demonstrating maternal kindness. I will always remember your grace, dignity, and sense of humor. I am so glad that I got see you a few years ago and so grateful for the life that you lead by example.

Sending love, thoughts, and prayers to your family. You will be remembered in my heart, my prayers, and the kindness that I will continue to show to others. Thank you for being a light.

In Prayers,

Tristan Lombard
