Allen L. Caton, 83, of Terre Haute passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 26, 1936, in Terre Haute to Lester and Geneva (Sluder) Caton.
Allen is survived by his family: Kimberly (Michael) Hyde, Pamela (Kurt) Jacks, Steven Alkire, Greg Caton, Gloria (Ben) Tubbs, James Hyde, Jason Hyde, John Caton, Sheena Jacks Love, Chastity Caton, Charles Caton, Michelle Caton, Phillip Caton, and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sandra Sue Caton; son, Jeff Caton; and brothers, Paul Sluder and Billy Caton.
Allen proudly served in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he went on to start his own business – Caton’s Truck and Trailer Repair. A self-made diesel mechanic, there wasn’t anything that Allen couldn’t fix.
Besides his family, Allen’s greatest passion was racing. He raced sprint cars, dragsters, and altereds. During his time living in Sacramento, California, Allen’s group of racers was the first to use rear-engine dragsters. Allen was the first person to ever drive on the Terre Haute Action Track. He enjoyed spending time with his family and celebrating his birthdays at the track.
Per his wishes, Allen will be cremated and laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Roselawn Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.roselawnfuneralhome.net
