Obituary of Lt. Col. Donn C. Jones (Retired)
Lt. Col. Donn C. Jones (Retired), age 88 passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at the Masonic Home in Louisville, KY. Donn was born July 17, 1933 to the late Russell A. Jones and Ruth (Moyer) Jones in Terre Haute, Indiana. He is preceded in death by "The Love of His Life", Lila Jane Thomas. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Janice and brother-in-law, Omar Williams. Donn was a choir member of the Memorial United Methodist Church. Donn and his father, Russell, were lifelong Masons in Indiana. Donn was also an active MOAA (Military Officers Association of America) member, as well as other civic and social endeavors. He retired from the Army Medical Corps, performing administrative duties in various countries including Korea and Germany, as well as various states in the U.S.A. Donn attended Indiana University and St. Mary's College. He also obtained his Real Estate License. He was proud to have graduated from Wiley High School in Terre Haute, where he was active in numerous chorus groups. He and his quartet sang on ABC radio in the 1950's. Having been an ardent Barber Shop singer for 60 years, Donn promoted the SPEBSQSA (Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America), now called Barber Shop Harmony Society. His last quartet, the Four Flushers, enjoyed many years traveling the U.S.A. The Banks of the Wabash Barbershop singers also traveled many international countries, singing at Disneyland in Japan was a great highlight. Left to cherish his memories are his nephews, Scott Williams (Debbie) and Stuart Williams (Michelle), nieces, Sally Long (Kris) and Susan Williams; great nephew, Justine (Stephanie) Williams; great-nieces: Hillary (Chad) King, Samantha Williams, and Jacqueline Williams; great-great nieces: Chloe King, Riley and Lyla Williams. He is also survived by his step-daughters, Stacy Grimm (Fred) and Marcie Bordelon; Step-son, Brandon Thomas; granddaughter, Tara Bryan (Bret); grandson, Tyler Grimm (McKay); great-grandchildren: Jack and Barrett; as well as his sister-in-law, Martha Thomas. A graveside, with Military Honors, will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 12:30pm at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute, Indiana.
