Dolores Maria McLaurin

Dolores McLaurin, 85, passed away on May 1, 2018 after a long illness. She was born in Chicago, IL to Anton and Frances Krist and spent her life there with family and friends until leaving in April 1951 to join her new husband as a Navy wife. She moved to Yorktown, New London, Albuquerque, Norfolk, and Keflavik Iceland before settling in Virginia Beach, all the time raising a growing family, traveling and helping her husband. She was a member of the Little Creek Catholic Chapel and enjoyed the Altar Guild until health limited her activities to receiving holy communion from Joan, Arleen and William. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 66 years, Kenneth McLaurin; daughters, Susan Collett and Cathleen Hultin; sons, John McLaurin, Kenneth McLaurin, Jr. of Boston; sister, Shirley Rutherford and family; grandchildren, Christopher and Jeremy McLaurin, Kerstin, Jennifer and Kyle Collett, Megan Davis, Brandon Hultin, and Mackenzie McLaurin; and great-grandchild, Elizabeth Davis. Dolores is predeceased by James McLaurin. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Rd, Virginia Beach, VA with the visitation beginning at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choosing. Thanks are expressed to nurses Holly and Robbin of Intrepid Home Care and the Virginia Beach Police and Fire and Rescue squads for their help in time of need.
