Paul F. Svagdys, Sr. VIRGINIA BEACH- Paul Francis Svagdys, Sr., 81, of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, was born July 11, 1929 in Boston, MA. On April 4, 2011, after a brief illness, went to be with his Maker and Kay, his sweetheart and wife of more than fifty years. Paul was a founding member of the South Boston Chapter of the Knights of Lithuania. He was a proud Mustang, retiring from the U.S. Navy as an officer after twenty-three years of service. He later earned his teaching degree from Old Dominion University and taught Distributive Education at Bayside High School. Following retirement in Virginia Beach, and the passing of his beloved wife, Kay, “Were Dad” moved to Florida to live out his years with his youngest daughter, Chris, and her husband, John, where he taught math to his favorite student, his grandson, L J, they served to edify each other every day which brought Dad’s remaining years genuine joy. Paul is survived by his brother, Dr. Joseph Svagdys and sisters, Regina Smith, and Brenda Burke. Also left to cherish his memory are his seven children, Susan Amos, Patricia Shaner, Virginia Drennan, Paula Lantzer, Paul (Luke) Svagdys, Jr., Andrew Svagdys, and Christine Sanderson, as well as four grandchildren, Regina, Larry III, John IV (LJ), and Aja and many nieces and nephews. Our parents believed in the family unit and greatest wish is that we all remain close and take care of one another. In their memory we ask that you always “hold the rail” and your loved ones close. A celebration of Paul’s life will be held at Kellum Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel, Saturday, April 9th at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made to the Covenant Hospice, 101 Hart St., Niceville, FL 32578. Friends may offer condolences at www.kellumfuneralhome.com.

My sympathy on your loss. I went to OCS in Newport with Paul in 59/60. I was in Echo company and he was in Charlie. I had no idea he was in this area. We were both from the Boston area, he from Dorchester and I from Malden.

Dear Ginny and other family members:

I am very sad to hear the passing of your beloved father. I remember him as a kind gentleman and very devoted to his family.

I too lost my father some 30 years ago. Although I will never forget him, time does help the pain and loss.

I wish you all well.

Chris, I have fond memories of you at BHS & remember from our chats after school how close you were with your father. I was not surprised to read he lived with you. You & your family can reflect on your time together fondly and be proud of your father. Remember the good times and cherish those memories of your time together. Love and sympathy, Carol Blackman

Tina, Susan and Family
Our sincerest sympathies on the passing of your Dad. Paul was truly one of a kind and will be misses by all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. God Bless

Someone new has entered
our eternal home above.
The heavenly gate has opened wide
to welcome the one you love.
We cannot help the tears that fall-
our hearts need time to grieve
when earthly life has ended
and a loved one has to leave.
Yet even in the saddest time,
we know our Savior lives,
and we can trust completely
in the promise that he gives.
That in a glad reunion with the Lord,
our loved ones wait
to welcome us in joy
with no more tears
beyond the gate!
