22 September, 19308 September, 2017
Sylvia Liisa (Iivonen) Cappetta, 86, of Waynesboro passed away peacefully on Friday, September 8, 2017 at Shenandoah Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born in Finland on September 22, 1930. Sylvia immigrated to the United States (Jersey City, NJ) in 1951 and lived there until moving to Richmond, Virginia in 1959 with her husband, Frank and daughter, Florence. Sylvia happily made Richmond her home for over fifty years. Sylvia was a homemaker, wife, mother, and caregiver. She was known for her generous spirit and warm heart - always available to help by cooking meals, shuttling to doctor appointments, ready to serve others. Many times she welcomed to her home those in need of a place to stay. Sylvia was also a gregarious and fun-loving woman, planner and host of many lively parties where everyone could enjoy themselves with food, drink, and music. Her home was always the center of activity and she loved every minute of it. In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank J. Cappetta, and her daughter, Florence I. Nickleson. Left to cherish her memories are her children, Liisa Westen and husband, Marvin of Waynesboro, Frank Cappetta and wife, Beth of Henrico, and Robert Cappetta of Williamsburg; her grandchildren, Stephanie Buchanan, Heather Wilson, Ashleigh Gallo, Nathan Worsham, Alex Westen and Michael Westen; eight great-grandchildren and a loving extended family. Her family wishes to express a heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff of Shenandoah Nursing and Rehab for their caring and support in her final days. Her family and friends will celebrate her life with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Ave, Richmond, VA 23238. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
