Lena Belle Fitzgerald

Lena Belle Fitzgerald, 92, a resident of Staunton, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2016, at her home. She was born March 4, 1924 in Augusta County and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lizzie Bateman McDaniel. Lena was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren, AARP Gypsy Hill Chapter #3972, Ladies Auxiliary Eagles #680. She volunteered at the SPCA in the late 80’s, and loved her flower gardens and to bowl. She is survived by her children, Bobby Hirtriter and wife, Helen, of Okeechobee, FL, Max Hirtriter, Jr. and wife, Sharon, of Staunton, Sheila Tolley and husband, Bill, of Mt. Sidney, Linda Davies and husband, Edward, of Staunton; a daughter-in-law, Delores Hirtriter of Harrisonburg; her grandchildren, Pam Scheider, Bobby Hirtriter, Jr., Melissa Gee, J.W. Hirtriter, Scott Hirtriter, Chris Hirtriter, Shannon Hirtriter, Debra Little, Stephanie Mitchell, Derek Tolley, and Megan Broce; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Max Hirtriter, Sr. and Walter Fitzgerald; a son, Jerry Wayne Hirtriter; five sisters, Virginia Lawson, Helen Haven, Georgia Andrews, Anne McDaniel and Josephine Dodson. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM, Sunday, September 11, 2016 at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Weyers Cave. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, September 12, 2016 at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren with Rev. Daniel House officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
