Alma June Anders Baranowski of Williamsburg died on June 16, 2021. Alma was born on June 8, 1926 in Claiborne County, TN. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 71 years, Frank Paul Baranowski; her parents, William Jasper Anders and Myrtle Ida Barker Anders of Claiborne County, TN; and her brother, MSGT Shelby Allen Anders. She is survived by her children, son Michael Paul Baranowski (Oksana) of Redondo Beach, CA; daughters, Jan Boyce, Naples, FL, Susan Baranowski, Arlington, VA, Carol Douglas, Chapel Hill, NC and Kristin Mayer, Bolivia, NC; five grandsons, William and Matthew Boyce, James Clayton and John Anders Douglas, and Daniel Mayer; three granddaughters, Jennifer Boyce, Elizabeth Baranowski, and Elena Kozina Baranowski; a great-grandson, James Malcolm Douglas; a great-granddaughter, June Holter Douglas; sister, Glenna Anders Lee, Fredericksburg, VA; two nieces and two nephews, as well as many relatives and dear friends. Alma was a graduate of Middlesboro High School, KY and an alumna of Lincoln Memorial University, TN. She met her husband while they both worked on the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, TN. They were married in 1946 at the Chapel on the Hill in Oak Ridge where they lived during the early years of their marriage. Subsequently Frank, a US government official, was transferred to Washington, DC where they lived in Bethesda, MD and Great Falls, VA. As a young mother, she enjoyed raising her children, traveling, and playing bridge. She also had a passion for reading and belonged to several book clubs. She was a Red Cross “Gray Lady” volunteer at both Suburban Hospital and NIH in Bethesda. In the early 1970’s she was employed by NOAA in the accounting office. She went on to complete Real Estate Principles courses at the University of Maryland and received her GRI (Graduate Realtors Institute) and CRS (Certified Realtor Specialist) designations. She was an active realtor in the Washington metropolitan area and continued this career upon moving to Williamsburg, VA in 1988. Alma and Frank made their home in Kingsmill for several years before moving to Williamsburg Landing in 2011. Alma was a member of Saint Bede Catholic Church, Williamsburg and formerly a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church, Potomac, MD where she was Prefect of the Sodality. She was a member of the Great Falls Women’s Club, Great Falls, VA; of the Kingsmill Women’s Social Club; and of the NSDAR, Comte de Grasse chapter, Yorktown, VA. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the Williamsburg Landing staff for the care they provided during the time Alma and her husband lived there. Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, August 7 at 1:00 p.m. at Saint Bede Catholic Church, 3686 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, VA. Reception immediately following the service in the Commons at the church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association, Williamsburg House of Mercy, Williamsburg, VA or charity of choice.
