Obituary of Jeffery Lea Wright

Elder Jeffery Lea Wright, 61, of Hampton, Virginia passed away on October 10th, 2021. He was preceded in death by his mother, Johnie B. Wright and brother, Rueben P. Wright. During his time serving in the United States Army, Jeffery took part in Operation Desert Storm. He had a decorated career in the military, having been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Saudi Liberation Medial, Overseas Service Ribbon, Instructor Evaluator Training CRS, Master Aircraft Crewman Badge, Expert Marksmanship Qualification with Machinegun Bar, Kuwaiti Liberation Medal, and the Sharpshooter Marksmanship Badge Rifle, M16. Afterwards, he worked for the Department of Defense as a Training Specialist. Jeffery was a member of the Unity of Faith Church, of Hampton, Virginia. He was also active with the National Association of Sports Officials. He was an avid history buff, gardener, and softball player. Jeffery was also passionate about volunteering for the Virginia Peninsula Food Bank, assisting the local schools PTA, feeding the homeless, and having dates with his wife at the Home Depot and Lowes. Jeffery is survived by his wife, Deaconess Carrie R. Wright; sons, Jeffery D. Wright (J. D.), and Joshua D. Wright; father, Eddie J. Wright, Jr.; sister, Hermina Washington; nephews, Paytron Wright, Jari Washington, Calvin Washington, Deangelo Wright, and Brandon Wright; and a niece, Bray Anna Wright A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, from 6 – 8 P.M at Nelsen Funeral Home, Williamsburg. An additional visitation will also take place on Thursday, October 21, 2021, from 9-11 A.M at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, with a service to follow at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be private.
