Robert Oxley, affectionately known as Bob, was born December 10 th 1930, in Athens, WV to Naomi Bird and Charles Jackson Oxley. He was the second oldest brother of six siblings. Bob attended Concord Training School, graduated in 1949, and went on to join the Army. He served with the 5th Armored FA Btry, Alaska, from June of 1949 until September of 1952. Bob’s enlistment spanned almost the entirety of the Korean War. Upon returning home, Bob was hired by the Bluefield Daily Telegram, in Bluefield, WV. In 1956, Bob married Carol Lily, and by 1962 they moved to Richmond, VA. Out of their union, children Carolyn, Robert Jr. and Valerie were born. Continuing a career in the newspaper industry, he worked at Richmond Times Dispatch to provide for his family, whom he adored. By the year 1970, now a single man, Bob landed a position as a Machinist at The Washington Post in Washington, DC., where he would continue to work until retirement. He found love again, with Myra Allison, loved and regarded her children Diane, Yvonne and David as his own. Bob was very active and adventurous. Prior to, his beloved wife, Myra’s passing, they enjoyed square dancing. He traveled far and wide with his siblings, was very active in his Capital Baptist Church community, bowling league, American Legion, as well as the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Naomi and Charles, his wife Myra, daughters Valerie, Diane and Yvonne, sons Robert and David, as well as his brother, Jackie. He is survived by Daughter Carolyn, brothers Charles, Frederick and William, sister Ann Lou, as well as grandchildren Tracy, Amy, Joseph, Leslie, Sarah, David, Grayland, Robert, Brad, Megan, Kyle and 14 great-grandchildren.
