Bob Zipp was born in Wyoming in 1919 to Alta and Robert Zipp. He was raised in South Dakota's magnificent Black Hills, where he loved exploring the mountains. When he met Angeline Thompson of Deadwood, they spent their happiest times together trekking the Hills. They married in 1943, after Bob completed his studies at Northwestern University. His percussion talent resulted in his assignment to The US Army Band, and he was stationed at Ft. Myer, VA. During his Army Band Career, he played concerts and ceremonies for presidents, kings, queens, as well as important national figures. As a member of the Band's Jazz ensemble, he toured North America with notable entertainers such as Eddie Fisher and Steve Lawrence. Bob and Ann were members of Trinity Episcopal Church in Arlington, VA, where they helped shape the fine music program - she as organist and choir director, and he as a member of the choir. He also served on the vestry. After retiring from the military in 1964, Bob worked for the Fairfax County School System as band director and music teacher. He dedicated himself to educating young musicians and proudly spoke of their accomplishments. His hobbies included relaxing in his woodcarving shop and gardening with Ann.
