Virginia Mateer

Alice Virginia Staubs Mateer was born June 29, 1932. Peacefully left this world October 27, 2019. Raised in Loudoun County, Virginia. The oldest of 6 children. Being a huge help to her mother and family, Virginia became a great seamstress, cook and baker. Her kitchen skills became her career and passion. First with the Fairfax County Public School lunch program for 17 years. Dedicated to God and her church, Virginia's greatest joy was using her talents running the kitchen at Calvary Church of the Nazarene in Annandale, Virginia, and designing its renovation. She planned and organized International Dinners. Catered banquets, weddings and after funeral meals. Self taught, Virginia created masterpiece cakes, including wedding cakes. She raised 3 daughters, Cindy, Connie and Cathy. And sewed most of their clothes. She also has 2 wonderful step-sons, Rodney and Robert. After marrying the love of her life, Warren W. Mateer, they traveled the eastern seaboard with his job. And vacationed each year at Nags Head, NC. They shared a happy and blessed 32 years together. Warren has been awaiting a reunion in Heaven since 2011. Virginia loved her Work n' Witness mission trips. There she further blessed God with her talents of kitchen/meal organization and meal preparation for large crowds of hungry workers. Her trips included 3 visits to the Africa Nazarene University (Kenya) and 1 each to Australia and New Mexico. A quote from her trip journal “If you have a chance to be part of a work & witness team, please take advantage of that opportunity. It will change your life.” She has 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren.
