Harold Delma Rakes

Harold Delma Rakes, 81, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019. He was born in Fieldale, VA on March 23, 1937 to Melvin Guy Rakes and Elizabeth Frances Bradley Rakes. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife; Bernice Allene “Dean” Spencer Rakes, grandson; Jeremy Dale Turner, and sister; Carolyn Rakes Carter. Mr. Rakes retired from E.I. DuPont of Martinsville. He was a member of Blackberry Baptist Church and attended Hill Memorial Baptist Church. Mr. Rakes is survived by his wife; Vergie McAlexander Vaughn Rakes, daughter; Tami Rakes Turner and significant other, Jerry Harper, Jr., son; Samuel Bradley Rakes and wife, Leslie, step-daughters; Vickie Vaughn Beasley and husband Jeffrey, and Jennifer Vaughn Caldwell, grandchildren; Micah “Bo” Rakes, Bailey Turner, Barrett Turner, Holly Beasley, and Chloe Caldwell, great-grandson; Brendan Rakes, sisters; Glenda Rakes Tuggle, and Geraldine Rakes Smith, along with many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Monday, February 11, 2019 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Collins Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jack Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park. Memorials to Hill Memorial Baptist Church, 2359 Appalachian Drive, Martinsville, VA 24112 or, Blackberry Baptist Church, 3241 Stones Dairy Rd, Bassett, VA 24055 in lieu of flowers.
