Louise Disosway Law of Charlottesville, age 83, passed away at The Laurels nursing home on Sunday, Feb. 3 after a long battle with cancer. Her closest friends and family members were there to comfort her to the end. A lifelong educator, Louise grew up in Norfolk and graduated from Maury High School in 1953 and from Old Dominion University in 1957. After moving to Charlottesville, she taught in public schools and earned her master’s degree in 1966 and doctorate’s in 1977 in education both at University of Virginia. From there, she was employed as a professor at Randolph Macon Women’s College in Lynchburg for 18 years. Louise was proud of the impact she had on her students and many kept up with her. During retirement, Louise split her time between a cottage in Kill Devil Hills, N.C. and her hillside town home at Mill Creek. She loved to read, garden, hunt for antiques and dream of ocean pier fishing. Louise had many fond memories of visiting her mother’s family on the Benton and Paxon farm in Gates County during her youth. She was preceded in death by her parents Marie and Reuben “Rudy” Mangum. Surviving Louise is her sister Marion Mangum Kyte of Virginia Beach and her children Joy Law Call of Springfield, Denise Law (Craig) Rogers of Chatham, Daryl (Wanda) Law of Kill Devil Hills and grandchildren Caleb Rogers, Connor Rogers, Lauren Law and Austin Law. They all called her “Honey.” She also loved her niece and nephews Tammy Kyte (Dennis) Wayland of Virginia Beach, Jeff (Stacy) Kyte of Mechanicsville and Danny Kyte of Powhatan. The family would especially like to thank her best friend Louise Gregory for her unwavering devotion to Louise until the bitter end. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist, 101 East Jefferson Street in Charlottesville with Pastor Phil Woodson officiating on Friday, Feb. 8 at 3 p.m. No graveside service is planned.
