 Obituario de Nora Emanuel Groover
Nora Emanuel Groover of Culpeper, VA passed away on December 29, 2019 at The Culpeper at the age of 94. Nora was born in Eau Claire, WI on May 14, 1925, the third born child of William Frederick Emanuel and Phoebe Dunn Emanuel. When Nora was a young child, her mother Phoebe passed away. Nora was lovingly raised by her stepmother, Rose Kinkar Emanuel. She was preceded in death by her ex-husband and father of her children, Charles Lawrence Groover, Sr.. She is survived by her three children, John Groover of Austin, Texas (wife Lorrie Kelly Groover); Tim Groover of Forest, VA (wife Beth Broman Groover); and Carol Timmerman of Amissville, VA (husband Mark Timmerman). She also is survived by her constantly loving and supportive nephew, Peter Steketee of Manassas, VA (wife Sheila Noonan Steketee). Nora was affectionately known as Gramma Nonie by her 9 grandchildren, 2 of whom preceded her in death: Brittany and Blair, 7 of whom survive her: Seth, Jake, Linde, Jordan, Samantha, Kyle, and Carly, and 4 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Katie, Mackenzie, and Lane. Nora relocated from Wisconsin to Washington D.C. in the early 1950’s and was hired by Elizabeth Arden Inc. as a hairdresser. After winning several national styling competitions, Nora was selected to be Mamie Eisenhower’s personal hairdresser while she and President Dwight Eisenhower resided in the White House. She moved to Culpeper in 1964 with her three children and opened “Nora’s Beauty Box,” a boutique hair salon she operated from her home. For decades Nora was blessed with a loyal clientele from the Culpeper and Rappahannock County areas. She stayed active as a hairdresser for over 60 years and cherished the chance to brighten people’s days with lively conversation and a “shampoo and set”. Nora lived a life that stands as a testimony of faith to all who crossed her path. She was dearly loved and will very much be missed. All who knew her were indeed blessed to be part of her life. A memorial service will be held at Nora’s church, The Culpeper Christian Fellowship, on Saturday, January 18 at 1 pm. A brief visitation and reception will follow. The family requests that any gifts in Nora’s memory be made to the Culpeper Christian Fellowship Church.
