Carolyn L. Karges, 87, of Newburgh, IN, passed away June 5, 2018. She was born on September 28, 1930 in Evansville, IN to the late William and Hazel Southwood. Carolyn was born at home. She attended Centenial School and graduated from Reitz High School in 1948. She was a secretary for the California public school system. Carolyn loved to cook and entertain. Her husband was a Pastor and they opened their home a lot for people at the church. No one ever went hungry because of her generosity. Carolyn was very devoted to her family. She loved shopping, especially for shoes. She enjoyed Christian music, reading cookbooks, and was very dedicated to the Reitz Panthers. Carolyn was passionate about supporting the military because her brothers had served during WWII. She attended the Fall Festival every year and would sometimes plan her visits around it. She loved pronto pups and the fudge. When she and Albert married, after he graduated from Cincinnati Bible Seminary, they moved to rural Indiana. He preached in Joplin, MO, Tulsa, OK, and California (San Bernardino, Escondido, Huntington Beach, and Lawndale) before retiring back in Evansville. She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Karges, in 2003; parents; and brothers, Delbert and Lloyd Southwood. Carolyn is survived by her sons, John Mark Karges (Barbara), Michael Karges (Kary), Stephen Karges (Janette); daughter, Karen Freeman (Glen); 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; brothers, Robert Southwood, Billy Southwood (Valerie); and sister, Marilyn Stemaly (Larry). A Funeral Service will be held 12:00 noon on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Alexander Memorial Park Heritage Chapel, officiated by Minister Coy Walters, with Entombment in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit from 10:00 AM until service time on Friday at the Heritage Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
