Rev. Elbert “Uncle” Roman, 84, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2018. He was born on August 4, 1934.
He served in the US Navy. Elbert’s father owned and operated ABC Washer Service. After many years of working alongside his father, he eventually took over the family business. Elbert’s life was driven by his faith in Jesus. In the early 60’s he was a founding member of Apostolic Mission of Christ in Evansville. Elbert was blessed to have had a relationship with many churches throughout his life. Elbert loved and appreciated the American Indian culture and history.
Elbert was preceded in death by his father William “Bill” Roman; nephew and best buddy, Jason D. Bruce.
He was survived by his mother Dorothy E. Roman; brother Jon R. Roman (Darla); sisters, Ida “Jayne” Bruce and Cindy S. Preske; niece and caregiver, Misti L. Bruce who he referred to as his “Angel” and Misti’s fiancée Jimmy Clement; niece, Amber Preske; nephews, Sean Preske, Aaron Preske, Bradley Flittner, Chris Roman and Eric Roman; great nieces and nephews, Ella, Braxton, Isabelle and those whom he was fortunate to see often, Justin, Lily, Logan, Trinity and Taetum. They lifted his spirit with every visit. A special thank you to Jimmy Clement and Jess Chamberlain who provided wonderful care and friendship to Uncle.
A private funeral service will be officiated by longtime friend and brother in Christ, Pastor Bill Moore. Burial will be in Salem UCC – Heusler Cemetery.
