Connie entered life on October 8, 1932 in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Marietta Whalen. She entered eternal life in God’s Kingdom on August 20, 2021 from the Memory Care of Naples with the care of Avow Hospice of Naples with her husband Richard C. LaVelle (Casey) at her side. Connie was raised in Ft. Dodge, Iowa where she attended Sacred Heart School for twelve years, graduating in 1950. In all twelve years she was a classmate of Casey. They started dating in high school, married in October 1952 and enjoyed sixty-eight wonderful and fulfilling years together. Connie was predeceased by children Mark and Anne Marie; parents Tom and Marietta; sister Sharlene and her husband John Remmel; her husband’s parents; three sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law. Connie is survived by her husband Casey; son John (Shannon); six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three nieces/nephews in her family; and twenty-one nieces/nephews in Casey’s family. Connie lived her married life in Ft. Dodge, Iowa City, Evanston and Palatine (Chicagoland), Whitefish Bay (Milwaukee), Oakton and Falls Church in Northern Virginia and Bonita Springs (Pelican Landing), Florida. Connie loved and engaged people and always made life-long friends wherever she was. Connie lived God’s Commandment to “love your neighbor as yourself.” Coming from work, school, whatever, Casey and the kids never returned to a house, always it was to a Home full of love and compassion. Connie humbly asked to be remembered as Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Granmommie, Friend. This is why this beautiful lady shall be so greatly missed by all. Connie courageously battled the ravages of Alzheimer’s disease for fifteen years. The family wishes to thank the staffs of the Renaissance at the Terraces in Bonita Springs, the Memory Care of Naples and Avow Hospice, Naples for the kind and compassionate care of Connie these past eight years; especially Eli and Marie. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at 10:30 AM at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 28290 Beaumont Rd, Bonita Springs, FL 34134. Additionally a graveside service will take place on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 11 AM at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, 3411 Arlington Blvd, Arlington, VA 22201. In lieu of flowers, consider a contribution to the scholarship fund at Christendom College in Front Royal, Virginia; Covenant House; or a charity of your choice.
