Edward V. Longyear

Ocean Isle, NC — Edward Valentine Longyear, 79, died peacefully on Friday November 24, 2017 at the Hospice House of Brunswick in Bolivia, NC following a brief illness. He leaves his wife of 52 years, Lourdes (Figueroa) Longyear; his son, George Edward and wife Julie; daughter Mary Isabel (Barrett) and husband Danny; and seven grandchildren; Marissa Michelle, Kristina Nicole and Gabriela Marie (Mia) Longyear; Rachel Anne, Ryan Edward, Isabel Elise and Jackson Thomas (Jack) Barrett. Born in Washington DC and raised in Arlington, VA, Ed was the only son of Edward Baylis and Mary Valentine Longyear. He graduated from Wakefield High School in Arlington VA in 1957 and attended the University of Maryland. He went on to serve in the United States Army as a Missile Specialist. After leaving the Army, Ed began his career with the Riggs National Bank in Washington DC where he met the love of his life, Lourdes. Married in 1965 in Falls Church, Ed and Lou went on to raise their two children in his childhood home in Arlington. Upon retiring from Riggs National Bank, Ed and Lou moved to Holden Beach and then to Ocean Isle Beach in North Carolina. A Visitation will be held at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 West Broad St. in Falls Church, VA, Monday, December 4, 2017 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Falls Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ed’s name to SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, NC.
