Helen Cleopha “Pat” McCulla passed away February 10, 2010, at age 87. Her husband Jim and her eight children and their spouses were present. When three of their children were students simultaneously at the college of William and Mary, Pat went to work for the first time I her marriage as a bank teller. By the time she retired she was a vice president for the First American Bank, forerunner of the Wells Fargo Banks in McLean, VA, where the family has lived since 1973. Then Pat became the president of Children’s Hospice International, dedicated to spreading the hospice concept for children throughout the world. Born February 26, 1932 in Quincy, IL, Pat graduated from the University of Missouri. She and Jim were married on February 20, 1954 after Jim’s service in the Army. Pat served as president of the McLean Business and Professional Association (now Chamber of Commerce), a board member of the McLean Symphony, Secretary of the Association of Parents at the College of William and Mary and member of the advisory board of the Heritage Bank, McLean. Pat was greatly devoted to Saint Luke’s program to aid the impoverished in Jamaica, serving for three years as general chairman of the Jamaica Committee. Survivors, in addition to Jim, are her children and their spouses: Claire (Martin Hardeman), Margaret (Duran Field), John (Ann), Paul (Barbara), Timothy (Karen), Stephen (Stephanie), Andrew (Diane) and Elizabeth McCulla-Johnson (Chuck Johnson). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Luke Catholic Church, 7001 Georgetown Pike, McLean, at 11 A.M. Saturday, February 15, 2020. A visitation period will begin at 10 A.M. in the church narthex. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation, 1 E. Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL 60601.
