Janice Maxine Ewald

Janice Ewald Janice (Jan) M. Ewald, 78, passed away on November 6, 2020 in Fairfax, Virginia after a long battle with dementia. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 11, from 6:00-8:00PM at Murphy’s Funeral Home (1102 W Broad St., Falls Church, VA 22046); COVID restrictions apply, limiting the number of visitors allowed inside. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 12, from 10:30-11:30AM. Attendance is limited to only family, but the service will be live-streamed on the Murphy Funeral Home website (link below). Jan was born in Fairmont, West Virginia to Harry Jack Harbert (d) and Doris Jean Harbert (d) on September 21, 1942. She married Richard Ewald on August 6, 1977. She graduated from Fairmont High in June of 1960. She was a valued property manager for S. R. Management Corp. for 45 years. Jan is predeceased by Harry Jack Harbert (father), Doris Jean Whalen (mother), and Cynthia Lynn Phares (daughter). Jan is lovingly remembered by her spouse, Richard Ewald, her son, Brian Gibson, Mary (wife), her step-children, Ronald Ewald, Deb (wife), and Michelle Hall, her brothers, Robert Whalen, Roxanne (wife), John Whalen, Jennifer (wife), James Whalen, Barbara (wife), Dennis Whalen, and Carol (wife), her grandchildren, Darren Phares, Krystal (wife), Autumn Ewald, Morgan Smith, Aaron Phares, Jenn (wife), Troy Phares, Nathan Begley, Ashley Phares, D. Austin Hall, and Paul Gibson. Pallbearers will be Brian Gibson, Ronald Ewald, Darren Phares, Troy Phares, Nathan Begley, and Paul Gibson. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association for research on the treatment and prevention of neuro-degenerative diseases. (Link: act.alz.org).
