Among those currency traders was Mr. Karori Ram Mehra’s father Lala Lakhmi Chand Mehra. After the death of their father. Mr. Karori Ram Mehra and his brothers took on the family business of currency exchange and exports of dry fruits sometime in the 1960s. They had a currency shop in-house Shahzadeh and were always busy with their work. Mr. Karori Ram Mehra was honest, hardworking and most of the foreign embassies and diplomats residing in Kabul knew him and his brothers as trustworthy to convert dollars to Afghan money when needed. One of the great example was after Russia invaded Afghanistan and during the height of cold-war, few of the well-known rich Afghan Hindus, including Karori Ram Mehra, were thrown in jail and accused of “American Imperialism.” When this became news, many of Mr. Karori Ram Mehra’s business friends and customers vouched for him that they have known Mr. Karori Ram Mehra from many years to this side. Their job is to exchange currency. They don't have the most small share in political categories. A couple of days later, one of the boys on the phone reported that their brother, Mr. Karori Ram Mehra, was released from prison and returned. Later, Mr. Karori Ram Mehra moved to India in the 1980s; he and few other Afghan Hindus took the initiative by meeting with then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, so that Indian government can help other afghan Hindus fleeing Afghanistan.
