Michael W Rudderforth

Rudderforth, Michael Wayne On Thursday, August 23, 2018, Michael Rudderforth passed away suddenly at the age of 72 years. Born and raised in Alexandria, VA, his parents were Robert (Mickey) and Corwyn Furlow Rudderforth. Michael attended Richmond Professional Institute, which became Virginia Commonwealth University, graduated with a BFA degree in Interior Design. His love of travel began after graduation from RPI when he and alumni of the Interior Design Department traveled to Italy, France and England on a summer study course of Design and Architecture. October 1968, upon his return from Europe, Michael received his draft notice. He enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1972. He was stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War and received the Vietnam Service Medal. He finished his Air Force career in the 6970th Air Base Group at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland, at the National Security Agency upon which he received his honorable discharge. After his discharge from the Air Force, Michael brought his interior design skills to the General Services Administration. His career culminated with the management of the GSA National Furniture Center’s showroom. Michael retired from GSA in 2008. In retirement, Michael and his partner, Tom, moved to Lauderdale-By-The-Sea where they continued their love of travel, enjoyed antiquing and lunch with friends. Michael was predeceased by his partner of 38 years, Thomas Dunn. Michael will forever be lovingly remembered by his partner’s family of Maryville, TN, numerous friends he made throughout life and his cousins, who loved him dearly. On Saturday, September 15, 2018 family and friends will be gathering at 11:30 until time of service at 12:15pm at National Funeral Home Chapel, 7482 Lee Hwy Falls Church, VA. Interment to follow immediately after service at National Memorial Park.
