Leona Lydia Haenftling

Leona L. Haenftling, 95, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2018 at Parkview Hospital. Born January 3, 1923 on the family farm in Hoagland, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Wilhelmina (Eigenberg) Wiegman. Leona was married at Zion Lutheran Church on June 4, 1949 to Paul Haenftling who passed away in 1990. She worked at Wayne Knitting Mill prior to becoming a full time homemaker and was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church for over 60 years. She volunteered at the polls, Lutheran Hospital, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and was a blood donor for over 30 years. She enjoyed cats, flowers, and welcoming family and friends into her home. She was known for her good cooking. She is survived by her children, Kenneth (Deborah) Haenftling, Karen (Fred) Rice, Katherine (Dan Westerlin) Haenftling, and John (Tammy) Haenftling; six grandchildren, Dustin Johnson, Stephani (Mike) Porter, Kerry Haenftling, Miranda (David) Cablk, Staughton (Kim) Wade, and Spencer Wade; and four great-grandchildren, Riley Porter, Brooke Porter, Ronin Wade, and Kiernin Wade. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Herbert Wiegman, Morris Wiegman, Hilda Harding, Amanda Doty, and Louise Wiegman. Funeral Service will be 11:00 am on Monday, June 11, 2018 at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be from 2-6pm on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial at Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne.
