Pauline D. Deal, 98, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2018. She was born to the late Louis and Pauline Louise (Wiese) Fortriede in Fort Wayne on October 29, 1920. She graduated from North Side High School and was the editor of the high school newspaper. As a teenager she learned to fly small planes. She worked at Lincoln Life until she married the late Paul M. Deal on May 16, 1940. Her husband’s job moved them to Decatur, IN, Kokomo, IN and Tiffin, OH with General Electric. Pauline was a well-known seamstress. She was an avid fan of Indiana University, she designed and sold I.U. kites, wind socks, and tree skirts. She was active in the Civic Theatre and was a member of the Theatre Guild. She won three Anthony Awards and designed costumes for more than 20 years. Pauline was a member of First Presbyterian Church and supervised making a set of new choir robes for the church choir. While living at Towne House Retirement Center she became an avid gardener, loved to swim, and loved cooking and was member of dietary committee at the Towne House. She started the back fence garden walk there as well. Pauline loved to travel around the world and had the pleasure of visiting 27 countries including China, Europe, Canada, Caribbean Islands and Costa Rica. Pauline is survived by her daughter, Cathryn Deal. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rescue Mission, Allen County Library Foundation, and the Allen County SPCA.
