Shirley G. Johnson

Shirley Gayle Johnson, 94, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021. Born in Detroit, Mich., she was the daughter of Gayle Oliver Johnson and Alma Lovell Johnson. During her 74 years in Detroit, Shirley paved the way for many women entering into the automotive industry. She was the first saleswoman and vice-president while employed with Continental Midland Corporation selling fasteners to all the major car manufacturers. Upon retiring at age 74, she moved to Fort Wayne in 2001. Shirley was an avid golfer, bridge player and loved gardening. She quickly immersed herself in local organizations. She was a member of Friends of IPFW, Encore, Fort Wayne Art League, and a lifetime member of Sigma Phi Gamma International Sorority. Shirley is survived by two nieces, Janet (Ted) Davis of Fort Wayne and Gail (Robert) Hubley of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; and numerous great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Lois (Carl) Mowbray and Carol (Ed) Kostura. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 7308 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Heartland Hospice.
