George Benjamin Southern Jr.

George B. Southern Jr. July 5, 1932 – January 30, 2023 George B. Southern Jr., born in Clarksburg, WV, son of George B. and Mary Helen Southern, died peacefully on Monday, January 30, 2023, in Fredericksburg, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Joy; his sisters, Nancy and Mary Catherine; and his brothers, James and David. He is survived by Edie, his beloved wife of 54 years; his sisters, Karen and Jane; his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Sandy; his daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Mark; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews. George worked at several different jobs during his life, but his favorite was road construction – both supervising and operating the heavy equipment. George “Georgie/Papaw/Paps/Uncle George” Southern Jr. was, is, and forever will be loved by his family and will be missed by all who knew him. The trip to heaven will be smoother for all who follow because George is fixin’ the road. A celebration of George's life will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 2:00 PM with a reception to follow at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 1621 Emancipation Hwy., Fredericksburg, VA 22401.
