Ray Edward Cronkwright, age 100, of Nampa, Idaho, and formerly of Granada Hills, California, and Fremont, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2020, in Nampa, Idaho. He was born on September 3, 1920 to Carl Charles and Ethel May (Hagerty) Cronkwright, they preceded him in death. In 1950 he received his bachelor’s degree and in 1960 his master’s degree, both from Purdue University, his major was electrical engineering. After completing his master’s he worked for Farnsworth Electronics which was bought out by International Telephone and Telegraph, ITT. During his career he had many interesting assignments. He worked on early radar research for guided missiles and global navigation development. He traveled to Washington, DC, also to Scotland where he worked on the Queen Elizabeth II. In 1963 while working for AT&T the Cronkwright’s were transferred from Indiana to California. He worked from 1971 to 1986 at Hughes Aircraft in Chatsworth, California. His hobbies included ham radio operation, camping in their Airstream, attending Bible Study, Church and woodworking. Ray’s faith in God was his most enduring trait. They attended Hillcrest Christian Church and Shepherd of the Hills Church, Granada Hills and Northridge, California starting in 1963. Some of his duties included visitation of new people, elders, bible teacher, trustee and school board member. He was instrumental in starting Hillcrest Christian School in 1976, and the school now enrolls approximately 1000 students. Ray married Mary June Cronkwright on June 9, 1945. She preceded him in death on March 29, 2015. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Bob Weatherman of Nampa, Idaho, two grandson’s, Paul and Scott Weatherman, a great grandson, Korbin Weatherman, and one great granddaughter, Adyson. Graveside Services will be held at 10 am Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Jamestown Cemetery, Fremont, Indiana. Bill Romans, Minister, will officiate the service.
