Astrid Hedwig Rogala

Astrid “Ozzie” Rogala, 71, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018. She was born in Essen, Germany to Karl Heinz and Ruth Balck. She began her 36 year nursing career as an LPN in 1968 in Hartford Hospital, Hartford, Connecticut and retired from Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News, Virginia in 2004. She was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Newport News. Surviving members of her family include her husband of 50 years, Richard Rogala; children, Brian Rogala and wife Melissa, and Lisa Daniel and husband Gregory; grandchildren, Jacob and Brittany Rogala, twin granddaughters, Brooke and Taylor Daniel; twin sister, Renate Foisy and husband Larry of Syracuse, NY; sister, Ingrid O’Donnell and husband David of Killingworth, CT; brother, Dieter Balck and fiancé Janice of Windsor Locks, CT; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. The family will be receiving friends Monday evening, July 2, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A service celebrating Ozzie’s life will be held Tuesday, July 3, at 10:00 am at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 116 Denbigh Boulevard, Newport News, VA. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
