Gary David La Bar, 73, passed away unexpectedly on May 8, 2021.
Born December 29, 1947 in Manhattan, New York to the late Douglas and Jacqueline La Bar, he spent his youth growing up in New Jersey, South Carolina, New York, Japan, and Hampton, Virginia where he graduated from high school (Hampton High School, Class of 1965) and college (Christopher Newport College of the College of William and Mary, 1971, B.S. Psychology).
Gary's career included a variety of activities to include serving as a juvenile probation officer (City of Newport News), a social worker (City of Hampton and Suffolk Health Department), a store manager for Singer Company (Petersburg), a Taxpayer Service Representative (IRS, Philadelphia) and as a client service representative [NCO Financial Systems, AEGIS Communications, and APAC (Hampton)] when he retired in 2010.
Gary's intelligence, mischievous sense of humor and kind nature will be sorely missed by his family and friends alike.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Kathy La Bar (Poquoson); nephew and great- nephew, Neel and Cole La Bar (Poquoson); and niece, Claire La Bar (Charlottesville).
Donations if desired may be made to The American Diabetes Association or to Parkinson's Foundation.
No services will be held due to COVID 19 restrictions.
Special thanks are given to the staff at Harmony on the Peninsula for the care and concern they exhibited throughout Gary's stay there.
