Jewel Eilene Schlatter

Jewel Eilene Schlatter, 86, of Winona Lake, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2022 at Grace Village Retirement Community. Jewel was born June 22, 1935 in Sturgis, Michigan and she enjoyed her childhood on a farm near Shipshewana, Indiana. She was the daughter to the late Perry J. and Olive Lucile Miller. Jewel received her Bachelor's degree from Goshen College. She worked as a dedicated teacher throughout her life and served as a missionary in Brazil, South America for 40 years. Additionally she had worked as an educational therapist for National Institute of Learning Differences. She loved to sew, read, and wrote many letters. Surviving her are her children, Sandra (Kevin) Gutwein of Winona Lake, IN, Denise (Barry) Hohulin of Dallas, TX, Karen (Eugene) Fontanilla of Haiku, Maui, HI, and Daniel (Marla) Schlatter of Warsaw, IN; 10 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brother, Dr. Gerald (Mary) Miller of Indianapolis, IN; and sister, Sally Jo (Ron) Milne of Goshen, IN. She married her husband Leon E. Schlatter June 2, 1962 and he preceded her in death on August 4, 2019. A committal service and burial will take place Friday, June 24, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Leo Cemetery, followed by a time for gathering and visiting at Grabill Missionary Church, 13637 State Street, Grabill, Indiana 46741 with a memorial service beginning at 4:00 P.M.
