Virginia J. Ryzewski

Virginia J. Ryzewski (née Kolodziej), age 77, of Griffith, IN, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Joan Kolodziej, and her husband of 42 years, Jerome L. Ryzewski, Sr. She is survived by her son, Jerome L. Ryzewski, Jr. of TX; two daughters: Cindra Lu (Robert) Gustafson of Orland Hills, IL and Jodilyn (Denver) Broderick of Griffith, IN; three grandsons: Kyle and Kody Gustafson and Jackson Broderick; two granddaughters: Madilyn Ryzewski and Addison Broderick; two sisters: Maryanne (Robert) Gasior of Cedar Lake, IN and Gloria (late Gene) Slowiak of FL; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at 10am at St. Mary’s Church, 525 N. Broad Street, Griffith, IN with Rev. Theodore Mens officiating. Friends may meet with the family members directly following mass at a location to be determined. In lieu of flowers, Virginia asked that donations be made to the Hospice of the Calumet Area, 600 Superior Avenue, Munster, IN 46321. Virginia was a wonderful dancer and never missed an opportunity to polka. She was an avid baker and applied those skills in the Hammond School district for 22 years until her retirement in 2012. She enjoyed traveling with her family to numerous locations including Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Washington D.C., and New York City. She was a die-hard Chicago sports fan and based on her children’s alma maters lived life as a house divided between Purdue and I.U. She absolutely loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and friends. In her spare time she enjoyed playing bingo and watching Jeopardy
