Joanna J. Grassl

Joanna J. Grassl, 75 of Huntington passed away at 12:43 pm on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice in Fort Wayne. Joanna was a 1960 graduate of Warren High school. She was a nurse’s aide in the school corporation for many years. Joanna served as an election worker for many years and was recognized in 2017 by the Secretary of State for her service. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Shakespeare Club, Sorosis Club, Gingham Gals Friendship Club and was a past Matron of the Eastern Star of Warren. Joanna’s life was her grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling and seeing new places. Joanna was born on May 24, 1942 in Huntington, the daughter of Roy and Beatrice (Riggs) Shideler. She was united in marriage to Roger Grassl on November 12, 1988 in Warren. Her husband survives. Additional survivors include two sons: Troy (Dawn) Irick of Huntington; Todd (Darla) Irick of Bristol, IN; two half-brothers: Phillip Shideler of Lubbock, TX; Dennis Shideler of Huntington; a stepsister: Mary Dalrymple of Huntington; a stepdaughter: Christy Monk of Eclectic, AL; a stepson: Scott Grassl of Gulfport, MS; four grandchildren, three step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter: Tori Alayne Irick. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 10:00 am with one hour of visitation prior to the service at Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Rev. Brooks L. Fetters officiating. Interment will be at the Thompson Home Cemetery in Warren, Indiana. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made out to Huntington University Foundation in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
