Joseph H. “Joe” Grindstaff, 77 of Huntington passed away at 1:05 am on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home. Joe was a 1959 graduate of Lexington High School in Lexington Missouri. He worked for General Motors at the leads plant in Kansas City, Missouri for 27 years, Joe retired from the General Motors Fort Wayne truck plant after working there for three years. Joe enjoyed watching NASCAR, and the time trials. He drag-raced in Missouri and Indiana. He helped his wife with craft shows around the area. His specialty was making wood items. He tinkered with old cars and rebuilt a 1964 Chevy Super Sport along with some 1954 and 1956 Chevy cars. Joe built his drag car from the bottom up. He was currently working on a 1939 Chevy Sedan. Joe was born on October 24, 1941 in Lexington, Missouri, the son of Jesse C. and Lucy Leona (Gamble) Grindstaff. He was united in marriage to Kay Ellen McDaniel on October 7, 2000 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Huntington, the Rev. Danny Lung officiated the ceremony. Joe and Kay were together for 29 years, married for 19 of those years together. His wife survives. Additional survivors include: two daughters: Nancy Jo (Heil) King; Ponnie Suzanne Grindstaff, two sons: Joseph Hamilton Grindstaff, Jr., James Patrick Grindstaff, six grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters: Leona Lucy Grindstaff, Lillian Madeline Grindstaff, Lillie Marie Grindstaff, Lena Doris Grindstaff and two brothers: Drury Coleman Grindstaff and Delbert Lee Grindstaff. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana. Funeral service will be held on Friday following visitation at 12:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Rev. Nick Miller officiating. Interment will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made out to Bethel United Methodist Church in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
