 Obituario de Jayne E. Landis
Jayne E. Landis, 61 of Centerville, died Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Ambassador Healthcare, Centerville. Jayne was born February 2, 1957 to Walter Oscar and Ruby Mae Phelps Landis and graduated from Richmond High School in 1975. As a young woman, she was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Richmond where she learned sign language so that she could translate Reverend Holman's sermons for members of the congregation who were deaf. From there, serving and helping members of the deaf community became her passion. Jayne attended Dallas Bible College in Dallas, Texas and continued working with members of the deaf community in Texas, which became her full time occupation. She worked for the Deaf Action Center in Dallas for several years, doing a variety of services including accompanying hearing impaired people into courtroom situations and other professional services where translation was needed. Jayne later worked for Dallas Community Colleges, and accompanied students into their college classrooms and interpreted the professor's lectures for them. Her other passion was animals, especially cats. Jayne was involved with various animal organizations and was always an advocate for the humane treatment of all animals. She became a Christian at a young age, and her faith was always very important to her. Jayne remained involved in several church ministries at various churches throughout her lifetime. My father, Walter Oscar Landis, preceded Jayne in death. She is survived by her Mother: Ruby Landis of Richmond, Indiana; her sister and brother-in-law: Kathleen Jewell and Duane of Grapevine, Texas; two nieces: Erin Bergman (Brian) of White Settlement, Texas and Alyssa Omdal (Eric) of Neenah, Wisconsin; one nephew: Kelsey Jewell of Grapevine, Texas; one uncle: James Carmack of Danville, Kentucky. She also is survived by four great nephews and one great niece. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday September 24, 2018 at Double Springs Cemetery, Cr-1219N, Waynesburg, Kentucky 40489 with Pastor Martin Holman of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Richmond, Indiana officiating. A tribute to Jayne from her sister, Kathy: My heart is very heavy tonight as I grieve the loss of my sister, Jayne Landis, who passed away today. Jayne was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer one year ago, and that was a terrible blow for her both physically and emotionally. Even though my heart is heavy, I have great hope and peace because I remember when she received Christ as a substitute for her sins and accepted His free gift of salvation at our church when she was young, and I know that tonight she is enjoying sweet fellowship with her savior and with our dad. It was also at church where she learned her second language, sign language, as she interpreted Reverend Holman’s sermons to our congregation members who were deaf. She became very skilled in the art of sign language, and that became her occupation when she grew up. She worked several years at the Deaf Action Center in Dallas, and later accompanied many deaf college students into their classrooms and interpreted their professors’ lectures for them. Her later years she spent caring for our mom in Indiana after our dad passed away. Unfortunately, I am not able to travel home to Indiana to be with my mom during this sad time because I am still recovering from my hip issues, but Duane will go to be with my mom for Jayne’s burial service next week. Your prayers are appreciated.
