Jodi S. (Buzzard) Schmits, 49 of Sharpsburg, Georgia and formerly of Markle passed away at 4:11 pm on January 1, 2019 after her courageous four year battle with Scleroderma at Visiting Nurse and Hospice in Fort Wayne. Jodi was a 1988 graduate of Norwell High School where she had a passion for playing volleyball and basketball. She earned her associate’s degree from IUPUI. She had worked as the office manager at IU Health in Noblesville for three years, she also sold real estate for Remax in Georgia for five years. Jodi loved supporting her sons in football, baseball and all they did in life. She was a hard worker and loved the outdoors. Jodi was a diehard Colts fan and was a “spunky girl that had a zest for life.” Jodi was born on November 21, 1969 in Huntington, the daughter of David and Phylian (Thomas) Buzzard. She was united in marriage to Tony Schmits on May 27, 1996 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her husband survives. Additional survivors include three sons: Zach Schmits, Jordan Schmits and Colin Schmits all of Sharpsburg, GA; her father: David (Carla) Buzzard of Markle; Mother: Phylian (Ralph) Keefer of Markle; a sister: Jami (Kris) McNiece of Fort Wayne; a half-brother: Cole (Leslie) Buzzard of Markle; two nephews: Brogan and Braylon McNiece and maternal grandmother: Marsha Thomas of Markle. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather: Bill Thomas and paternal grandparents: Wallace and Ava Buzzard. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 2:00pm – 8:00pm at the Myers Funeral Home Markle Chapel, 415 N. Lee Street, Markle, Indiana. Funeral service will be held at 11:00am with one hour of visitation prior to the service on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Markle United Methodist Church, 145 W. Morse Street, Markle with Rev. Steve McPeek officiating. Interment will be at the Horeb Cemetery in Uniondale. Memorial donations can be made out to Northwestern Medicine Division of Immunotherapy and Autoimmune Diseases or to Visiting Nurse and Hospice both in care of Myers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 403, Markle, IN 46770.
