Helen P. DeVoe, 97, passed away at her residence in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Thursday, January 10, 2019. She was born in Mount Summit, Indiana, on September 16, 1921, the daughter of Archie and Inez (Houdeshell) Poindexter. Helen was a graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where she earned her Bachelors of Arts. She held a true passion for genealogy, and loved art, art history, sculpture, and drawing. Helen founded the Arizona Chapter of the National Society Dames of the Court of Honor and was the former president of the Colonial Dames of America. Helen was also a patron for the Hereditary Society Blue Book in 1995 and was listed in the Southwest Blue Book. She was also a past member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts and the Descendants of Valentine Hollingsworth, Sr. Society. Helen is survived by her daughter, Judith Ann DeVoe-Stafford, Portland, Oregon; daughter-in-law, Andy DeVoe, Indianapolis, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Christian, Amy, Jim Jr., Marcy, Mindy, Angie, and Ryan; and twenty-four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul V. DeVoe; and her son, James F. DeVoe. Services to honor Helen’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana, 47304. Entombment will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park. Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday, January, 15, 2019, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home.
