Naomi Barney departed this life on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk, VA. She was born October 25, 1935, in New York, NY to Annie Turner Grey and Francis Grey. She spent her early childhood years growing up in Weldon, NC and upon returning to New York, she completed her formal education. She started working at the Post Office as a Box Clerk and worked her way up to a Supervisory position where she remained until she retired in 1992. During this time, she moved to Laurelton, NY and became a member of United Community C.O.G. under the leadership of Rev. Lloyd B. Jones. It was there that she received the infilling of the Holy Spirit. Naomi took on the role of an Usher and later Sunday School Superintendent and taught Sunday School, which was something she enjoyed doing. Naomi also enjoyed singing praises to the Lord and was a member of the Choir. After the retirement of Pastor Jones, she had been ordained a Deaconess under the leadership of Rev. Keevie L. Hooks. In 1993, Naomi moved to Chesapeake, VA. She knew she needed to find a church home and looked in the Church directory and found Bellamy C.O.G. where she became a member under the leadership of Rev. Calvin Peterson. She took on the role of Sunday School Superintendent and continued her duties as a deaconess. Naomi was a kind and compassionate woman. She was always willing to help those who were in need. She enjoyed the company of her many sisters and brothers in Christ and can be found as a participant in many of the different ministries (Women of the C.O.G., Stonecroft,Bible Studies Group and Thank You Lord Ministry) just to name a few in service to the Lord. She most loved to put on different plays and music programs in the community room of Lynnhaven Cove where she resided. She was preceded in death by her two sons, Allen Marshall and Jeffrey Barney.
