Hattie Plante Copeland

COPELAND, Hattie Plante, 93, of Henrico, Hattie was born December 23, 1924 in Fitzwilliam, NH, passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Lakewood Manor in Richmond. She will be remembered for her servant's heart, musical talents and loving hugs. She graduated from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ and served as church organist at Ginter Park Baptist Church in Richmond, and Children's Choir Director at Flagler Street Baptist Church in Miami, FL. Most recently she was a member of Derbyshire Baptist Church for 50 years where she served as the pastor's wife from 1967 - 1989. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James R. Copeland. She is survived by her three sons, Richard (Marian) Copeland of Henrico, Robert Copeland of Richmond, and James (Gail) Copeland of Manakin Sabot; grandchildren, Rich Copeland of Mascot, Australia, Valerie Williamson (Patrick) of Henrico, Rob Copeland (Kendra) of Henrico, Brian Copeland (Andrea) of Midlothian, Stephanie Copeland of Midlothian and Michael Copeland of Henrico; seven great-grandchildren all living in the area. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Ministry at Derbyshire Baptist Church or donor's choice. The family will receive friends at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 5 to 8pm. A celebration of Hattie's life will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 10am at Derbyshire Baptist Church, 8800 Derbyshire Rd., Richmond, Va.
