Jeanne “Camille” Summerlin Passed away peacefully on December 21, 2020 in Williamsburg, Virginia. Camille was born on April 18, 1947 in Warsaw, Missouri to Command Sergeant Major Willis Henry Stroud, U.S. Army, Ret., and Jeanne Carmen Stroud, née Said. During her father’s military career, one of her most memorable tours was Waianae, Hawaii where she enjoyed her high school years surfing the beaches of the west side of Oahu and spending time with dear friends. In 1965, Camille graduated from Ferguson High School in Newport News, Virginia. After high school, Camille worked in civil service with the U.S. government, and had many accomplishments as a retired GS-13. Camille was the loving and devoted wife of Colonel Ronald “Gene” Summerlin, U.S. Army, Ret., who passed away in April of 2012. During their life, together, they enjoyed many military assignments overseas, as well as in the states, and volunteered their time to various military organizations. A true patriot and “military brat,” Camille was proud of the fact that she had moved over 27 times in her lifetime and was grateful for the travels and memories as both a daughter and wife in the U.S. Army. Camille fiercely loved her family, especially her grandchildren Skylar, Stella and Shane, who were her pride and joy, and referred to her as their “Meema.” Camille is survived by her son, Jamey Copeland, his wife Cathy, and grandchildren Stella and Shane of San Clemente, California. She is also survived by her sisters Christine Williamson of Phenix City, Alabama and Caroline Sherwood of Beaumont, California, as well as several nieces and nephews. Camille is loved and celebrated by her family and close friends and will be deeply missed. Camille is under the care of Demaine Funeral Home, Springfield, Virginia and burial arrangements will be made for Arlington National Cemetery, where she will be joining her beloved husband Gene. Camille was a two-time cancer survivor, of thyroid and breast cancer, and a courageous fighter as well as a true warrior. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (Give.BCRF.org) or the Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org). A Funeral Mass will be held on August 12, 2021 at 2:45 pm at Fort Myer Old Post Chapel, Fort Myer, VA 22211 with interment to follow in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA 22211. RSVP to Jamey Copeland at [email protected].
