On Thursday, April 29, 2021, Pauline (Polly) Strole Karnes, loving wife and mother of two children, passed away at the age of 98.
Polly was born on November 10, 1922 in Shenandoah, VA to the late Clyde and Pearl Strole. On January 31, 1942, she married Robert Bernard Karnes, to whom she was married for 67 years until his death in 2009. She served as a career Federal employee at the National Technical Information Service.
Polly could always be found working a crossword puzzle. She was also very active in the choir and quilting groups affiliated with Hope Lutheran Church in Annandale, VA. Polly and her husband, Bob, were avid golfers and would often plan short trips around playing at different nearby courses. She was also known for cooking enormous southern meals for family and friends.
Polly was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her father, Clyde; and her mother, Pearl. She is survived by her two children, Robert (Bob) Karnes and his wife, Mimi of Caldwell, WV, and Patrick Karnes of Henderson, NV; her sister Maxine Bern; her grandchildren Erin Karnes Rubens and her husband David, Robert Karnes and his wife Erin, and Lonnie Karnes and his wife Nikki, and great-grandchildren, Colton and Morgan Karnes, Samantha and Alexander Rubens, and Tyler, Kendall and Jackson Karnes.
A burial will be held on Monday, May 10, 2021 at the Culpeper National Cemetery at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be sent to the Hospice Foundation of America, 1707 L Street NW, Suite 220, Washington, DC 20036.
