Steven W. Tompkins passed away on Sunday, May 12th at 9:05 pm as a result of complications from his open heart surgery.
Steve was born April 30, 1953 to Willard H. Tompkins and Barbara L. Tompkins in Washington, D.C. and is survived by his loving wife, Lynda, two daughters, Whitney and Kelly and granddaughter Ava. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Gerber, husband Phil, and their children and grandchildren; his sister Tracy Walton, and her children and grandchildren; and Lynda's sister, Susan, and her children and the many, many friends whose lives were enriched by knowing Steve.
He worked for over 30 years as a Superintendent for the City of Alexandria's Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities. His life accomplishments included numerous awards and recognitions for his years of service and giving back to the community. Steve was the rock of our family and provided unwavering support, strength, and love to all who knew him. If you needed help or guidance, Steve was your man. He was also famous for his quick wit and sharp sense of humor.
He will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Steve's Life will be held on Sunday, June 9th from 1 pm - 4 pm at ALX Community Waterfront in Old Towne Alexandria, 201 N. Union Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. Garage Parking is available.
