Sue Samuels Flory
Sue S. Flory, 88, of Springfield, VA, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2022, surrounded by family. Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Robert Flory, and her sister Joan Briggs. She was a loving mother to her children David (Millie), Debby (Scott), Michael (Mindy), Scott (Vanessa); big sister to Anne Cook (Ronnie); proud grandmother to Jason (Rachel), Davis (Kirsti), Sara (David), Suzann (Joe), Bryan, Andrew, Max, Kylie, Claire, and proud great-grandmother to Colin. She was also sweet Aunt Sue to many beloved nieces and nephews.
Sue grew up in a military family, moving several times across the country. She then married Army Officer 1st Lieutenant Robert A. Flory and began her lifelong career as a dedicated military wife and mother, once again moving from one assignment to another, this time with children in tow. Sue involved herself in many organizations, such as her children’s sports and school activities, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and bowling leagues. She was also very active in the Washington Calligraphers Guild for 40 years and was recently inducted as an Honorary Member.
Her greatest joy came when surrounded by her children and their spouses, her grandchildren and great-grandson. Several family vacations and Thanksgiving gatherings have made for many memorable moments and are treasured by all.
Whether Mom, Geema, Mimi, big sister, Aunt, or dear friend, she was cherished by all and will be greatly missed.
Memorial services will be held at 1PM on Saturday, May 28th 2022 at Kirkwood Presbyterian Church. Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Thursday September 1st 2022 at 1:00pm
