 Obituario de Carol Jabin
Carol Jabin died on Sunday, December 23, 2018, surrounded by her children. She was born in Tacoma Park, MD, to Philip and Hazel McCurdy on October 7, 1934. Carol grew up and attended schools in Tacoma Park, MD, until her senior year when her father’s work took the family to Washington, DC. She graduated from Anacostia High School in 1952. Shortly after graduation Carol married her first husband, Jim Hammond. In 1961 they moved to Cape Loch Haven in Edgewater Md where they owned operated a small marina known as Hammond’s Pier. They remained married for 15 years and had 4 daughters together. In 1968, Carol began work at Bert Jabin’s Yacht Yard in Annapolis, MD. She and Bert fell in love and were married in 1972. As business partners, Bert Jabin’s Yacht Yard flourished with Carol’s office management and Bert’s marina operations skills. Bert and Carol each brought four children into their marriage. Along with helping to raise 8 children and managing the household, Carol continued to work full time alongside her husband. Eventually, the couple retired and the business was sold to their eldest son, Rod Jabin. Carol loved her Annapolis home and felt at peace while on or near the water. She enjoyed many boat travels and fishing trips with her late husband, Bert, and also enjoyed some wonderful trips with her children and grandchildren. Carol enjoyed numerous hobbies throughout out her life. As a young woman she enjoyed flower gardening, furniture refinishing, home decorating, working crossword puzzles, and cooking. She was also a voracious reader, challenging the local libraries to find her books she had not read already. Carol’s other lifelong passion was sewing and every form of needlework. Her greatest joy was gifting her many beautiful hand-pieced and stitched quilts to her loved ones. Carol was preceded in death by her husband Bert Jabin, both of her sisters, Shirley Nelson and Lois Rifenbark, and one grandchild Rebekah Whalen. Survivors include her eight children and their spouses: Linda Macey (Pete), Mary Beth Lehnert (Rick), Vicki Whalen (Rollie), Jan Southern (Ray), Rod Jabin (Robin), Matt Jabin (Nancy) Kathy Chandler (Tracy), Dirk Jabin (Amy), fourteen precious grandchildren and four adorable great grandchildren. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and loving close friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home 147 Duke of Gloucester St, Annapolis, MD 21401 on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at 2 PM.
