Charles Glen Wheat, 94, of Terre Haute, passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at Meadows Manor North. He was born on February 25, 1924, in Parke County to Blaine and Minnie (Bennett) Wheat. Glen is survived by his daughters, Susan Briggs of Houston, TX, and Jean Vasquez of Brazil, IN; grandchildren, Shawna Vasquez and D.J. Vasquez; three great-grandchildren; nephews, Jim, Walter, Charlie, and David; and nieces, Thelma, Maxine, and Nancy. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred Jane Wheat; brothers, Roy and Max Wheat; and a sister, Lucille Wheat. Glen served in the United States Army during WWII. He drove a convoy truck through many countries in Europe. He worked for many years and retired from Martin Marietta. He had a passion for vegetable gardening. He grew the best tomatoes and cabbages. Glen enjoyed trying new things, whether in his garden or in his workshop. He liked building things and coming up with different inventions. He loved his dogs. He enjoyed country music. Visitation will be held from 11 to 1 p.m. on Monday, August 13 at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, at the funeral home. Glen will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park’s Chapel of Memories with military honors provided by American Legion Post 104 Glen’s family would like to thank the staff at Meadows Manor North and Southern Care Hospice for their compassionate care and kindness.
