The Essence of Dorris Lorraine Ward has transitioned from this life and has reunited with the spirits of family and friends. Dorris passed away unexpectedly on February 24, 2021. She was born on August 2, 1936 and was the daughter of the late Leon and Della Louise Shores. Her early life was spent in Terre Haute, Indiana, where she met and married her late husband Kenneth J. Ward. The family moved from Terre Haute to northeast Indiana, where they spent most of their married life in the Woodburn area.
She worked and then retired from Phelps Dodge Magnet Wire Company, where she was employed as a lab technician in the Quality Control Lab.
After retirement, Dorris moved to Florida, achieving her dream, resided in the Northport area for a number of years, and later returned to her hometown of Woodburn to be close to her family.
Dorris leaves behind five of her seven children, Kenneth L. Ward (Melanie) of Jasonville, Indiana, Cynthia L. Barhydt (Kenneth) of Grabill, and Karen S. Hanefeld (Kevin), Connie G. Rothgeb (Steve), and Keri J. Bricault (Lee), all of Woodburn, Indiana. She was preceded in death by two of her children, Kristi A. Wahl and Curtis A. Ward. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great grand-children and a great-great grandchild as well as a number of close friends. She also leaves behind, a brother, Edward Shores (Patricia), of Eureka, Missouri, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Shores.
Private graveside services will be conducted at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute, Indiana, at a date yet to be determined. Roselawn Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
