Priscilla Cole Durden

Priscilla Cole Durden, 89, passed away on Jan. 8, 2020 in Newport News, Virginia. She was born in West Paris, Maine to Lorenzo and Mona Cole. After graduating from West Paris High School in 1948, she began her nursing career at New England Deaconess in Boston. She married Walter David Durden and together they raised two children while living in California, Ethiopia and Virginia. For years, she worked as a nurse at Fairfax Hospital outside Washington DC, working the night shift so she could be with her family during the day. Whether driving cross-country to visit family, taking a cruise with her sister-in-law, playing the slots in Las Vegas or renting a cottage on North Carolina's Outer Banks with her children and grandsons, she loved to travel. When not on the road, she enjoyed shopping, playing mahjong, catching up on the phone and watching spy movies and thrillers. She never missed a graduation, always sent a Christmas card and never forgot to call you on your birthday. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 58 years, CDR USN Ret. Walter David Durden; her brother Sherman; and sister Mary Jane. She is survived by her son, Walter David Durden Jr. and his wife Brenda; daughter Deborah Durden; three grandsons, Christopher, Todd, and Scott; sister-in-law Edith Cole; and numerous nieces and nephews.
